Regret – 11.3.26 – EP08

Pastor Chris says greed is the love of money, whether you have any or not. He quotes Dallas Willard, who wrote that bondage to wealth is no greater among the rich than among the poor. Just as skinny people can be gluttons, poor people can be greedy.

Pastor Chris describes greed as an imbalance in the soul: in what we desire, in how we acquire, and in how we hold on to what we have. Then he gives three ways to get over it. First, change your desires by changing your mind. He points to a Cornell University study he says linked the study of economics with stinginess, and to Romans chapter 8 on setting our minds on what the Spirit desires. Second, look at what you buy and why. Most people consult their feelings, their finances, and their families, but Pastor Chris asks what's missing: prayer. Third, change the way you possess things. Jesus warned in Luke chapter 12 that life doesn't consist in the abundance of possessions. Everything we have is God's, and we're stewards of it. Pastor Chris says spirit-led generosity is the antidote to greed.
